West Australian Opera (WAO) is the principal opera company of Western Australia and is a resident company at His Majesty’s Theatre Perth. The company draws from the principal canon of operatic repertoire and increasingly is involved in the commissioning and development of new operas. It has a strong education program and is involved with many concerts and community events in metropolitan and regional Western Australia.
The focus of this work for West Australian Opera was the development of an annual visual identity which spoke from the heart, conveyed the rich depth of the art form and had broad appeal. CHARD International took an illustrative approach incorporating an image of a real heart at the core of the illustration then layered this within a symbolic heartshape frame. The combined elements aimed to communicate the cycle of life, the beauty and vulnerability of the human spirit and the lifeforce that drives emotions.
This heart motive was first developed by CHARD for West Australian Opera in 2018 and has become an recurring brand element for the company.
