CHARD International first created the Nobu restaurant as a walk up 200 seat restaurant open to the onsite public at the 2018 Australian Open. 2019 marked the second execution of the space.
The brief for 2019 required that the restaurant should be consistent with Nobu Branding and also in line with how the space was delivered in 2018 - the venue was in a 375 square metre generic white marquee, it was considered important that we start by fully building out the marquee to achieve the look and feel of a permanent high end restaurant.
CHARD developed a striking façade incorporating the Nobu logo to present the brand on the public
forecourt. The interior design developed for Nobu utilised high grade raw wood for the majority of the build in order to establish a soft and quiet ambience. Matte black elements and a graphic black and white illustrated wallpaper built on the natural wood palette. Traditional Japanese décor items, Noren, hand made paper lanterns and contemporary florals added essential cultural links. The raw unvarnished architectural components provided an authentic wood scent which we layered with an exotic Voluspa Moso Bamboo room fragrance.
